CBSE allows 10 pc fee hike after parents' plea.

Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in a recent order has directed private schools to revise their fees by only 10 per cent in a year and that too at the beginning of academic session.
The decision came after some 11 petitions filed by parents of students
studying in Delhi Public School, Rajkot, and New Era Secondary School, Vadodara.
Appearing on behalf of the petitioner, Anand Yagnik submitted that the private unaided schools affiliated with the Central board were charging exorbitant fees and were indulging in upward revision every year.
The fees was ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 60,000 per annum and the revision from Rs 3,000 to 9,000. A high-level committee was constituted by the chairman following directions from the Gujarat High Court.
The chairman, acting on the report submitted by the committee, ordered that the tuition fees can be revised only once in a year by 10 per cent. The order will be applicable from academic year 2005-06.
The chairman also stated that the fees collected beyond 10 per cent must be returned or adjusted against the account of the student. The order further stated that the fees charged should be commensurate with the facilities provided by the schools.
No capitation fees or voluntary donation for gaining admission in the school should be charged. The chairman also stated that the representative of parents should be consulted by the school management before revising the fees and proper procedure for fee revision must be followed by the school.
The chairman restrained the school from diverting school fees to trust society, school management committee or in favour of any individual. However, the chairman stated that development fees can be charged, but that too in a reasonable limit.
